'I changed my mind. Became myself. Gift of age, gift of quiet, gift of time.'

- From 'Softening Time: Collected Poems' Elena Brower

Hey friends,

Let’s talk about transformation. True transformation lasts for longer than an ah-ha moment. In fact it might not even involve an ah-ha moment, it might be a slow burn. I've been thinking of this recently in the context of wellness. I'm heading into peri-menopause and although I feel extremely well for the most part I do notice some small shifts in my body. I'm a little stiffer in the morning when I wake, my metabolism most definitely is not what it used to be and my (already thin) hair is even thinner. I realise that this juncture in my life could mark the slow descent into poor health or a chance to adopt some habits that will serve me well in the years to come. Of course, I'm choosing the latter and supplementing, moving more, feeling grateful and embracing the joys of slow and steady choices that align with my values over time.

This rule of the slow-burn transformation (instead of the quick-fix) applies to so many things; our health, our wealth (start saving small amounts each week and come back in a few years to be surprised by how much you’ve squirreled away), parenting (how many nappies have I changed. How many times have I read ‘Where is the Green Sheep’?).

It's exactly the same in Bhakti Business (my business mentoring offering). So many women come into the world of business expecting to make mega-bucks over night. Or instantly have zillions of followers and subscribers. Some of this is the fault of the coaching industry that has made ridiculously over inflated promises which are unethical and unrealistic (check out this Instagram account for more on that). But some of it is our own fault. In 99% of cases building a business takes slow and steady incremental effort over time. We have to do the work. Even the boring bits.

Overall my message is this - let’s stop romanticising the instant result and start digging into the resilience and discipline required for deep change and lasting transformation.

Here's some of what last month looked like in my world:

Parenting in the trenches of a gastro bug that whipped though our household the last two weeks reminded me that motherhood is a privilege not a sacrifice, and true wealth is family. This new podcast from the most brilliant Yolande Norris-Clark is pure balm for the soul. Her voice is like honey and her words are medicine.

Photographing, I did a super-fun photoshoot with my 'work wife' Edwina Pedenfor a new Bhakti Club offering that's coming up soon. The tag line for the offering is 'a cup of tea for your soul' and we used all the gold and cosy vibes we could muster by the side of an open-fire to create some seriously magical beauty.

Learning, with Kaya Mindlin on one of my favourite topics, chakras and subtle anatomy.

Talking, of peri-menopause I love these products. The collagen one isn't vegetarian but all the others are plant-based and I'm a fan.

Reading, I read two books this month, 'The Women' by Kristin Hannah (it was a slow start for me but once I got going with it I adored this book, it was also our book of the month inside Bhakti Club), and this INCREDIBLE book, 'Leaving Isn't the Hardest Thing' by Lauren Hough which is about a lesbian woman who was raised in a fundamentalist Christian cult. So brilliantly written and also surprisingly funny.

That's about it from me for now but it would be remiss of me not to mention I've binged the new season (only partially released) of Bridgerton. While the first season was my all time favourite and they've never quite captured me to the same degree again, it's still a sumptuous journey of fantasy and sensory indulgence that I adore. This season I particularly loved the interiors of the houses. Perhaps this is the truth of middle age - a beautiful set of ornately hung curtains lights me up more than the heroine's romantic aspirations!

So many people in our world are suffering right now, the world is in a mess. Although my work doesn’t solve the huge problems we’re facing or the wars and atrocities in our world I believe with all my heart that healing happens in the simple moments and the simple things. A moment of stillness, a conversation with a friend, a gesture of kindness. Let's all keep being as kind as possible to each other. And embracing forgiveness as a practice (towards ourselves and others).

Sending so much love to you and yours, and holding so much gratitude in my heart for your presence here in this space,

Katie Rose
